The co-op collects cow’s milk from small scale producers, (typically 1 or 2 cows) for pasteurizing and sale in Arusha.

Cows

This enterprise is one of the few sources of income for women in the region and provides a safe, nutritious and affordable food source for children.

Collecting milk

The women have set up a committee which organizes the collection, recording and payments to producers.

In 2005, with our help the women purchased 5 acres of good grazing land enabling the expansion of the enterprise.

We have also funded the purchase of materials to build a toilet block.

We purchased a generator to provide an emergency power supply for the milk cooler as mains electricity is erratic. Recently we paid the deposit on a second milk cooler tank and the Women’s Group will make the remaining repayments themselves from their profits.

This project was opened by the Prime Minister as it is the first of its kind in Tanzania. He made special reference to the help given by Cwlwm Monduli.
